What is the PMEGP?

The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit-linked subsidy program launched by the Government of India to generate employment opportunities by establishing micro-enterprises in rural and urban areas. Managed by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), PMEGP aims to facilitate self-employment and create sustainable livelihoods.


Key Features of PMEGP

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Individuals:  Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have at least a VIII standard pass for projects costing above ₹10 lakhs in manufacturing and ₹5 lakhs in the service sector.

  2. Self-Help Groups:   Including those belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL), but excluding those who have availed benefits under any other subsidy-linked government scheme.

  3. Institutions:   Registered Institutions, Production Co-operative Societies, and Charitable Trusts.

Subsidy Levels

  1. Urban Areas:

    • General Category: 15% of the project cost.


    • Special Category (SC/ST/OBC/Minorities/Women, etc.): 25% of the project cost.
  2. Rural Areas:

    • General Category: 25% of the project cost.


    • Special Category: 35% of the project cost.

Required Documents for PMEGP Loan Application

  1. Project Report:   Detailed project report outlining the business idea, market analysis, financial projections, and capital requirements.

  2. Identification Proof:   Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, or any other valid ID proof.

  3. Address Proof:   Utility bill, rent agreement, or any other valid address proof.

  4. Educational Qualification:   Certificates to prove educational qualifications, if applicable.

  5. Caste Certificate:   For applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories.

  6. Bank Details:   Bank account statement and details of the financial institution.
